This kit comprises 4x50g Kinross 4ply Lambswool in contrasting colours - 100g of each colour, the paper-copy pattern for the cowl and a project bag. Needles are not included.
This cowl features 15 different Celtic-inspired motifs. It is worked in the round on a 3.25mm 40cm circular (or DPNs/Magic Loop) and the ends are either grafted or seamed when it is the desired length. Required skills are: working in the round and stranded colourwork.
The cowl is largely based on the 2021 advent kit and features many of the same motifs. The sample is knit in 15 different colours of Miniballs - a kit is available for this - but it can be worked in any 4ply yarn of contrasting colours. It is particularly striking worked in just two colours.
The cowl fits as a snug, single-loop when each motif is worked once as per pattern but it can be made to any length by repeating the motifs as desired. There is enough yarn in this kit to make a loop the goes twice around the neck.
It is named after St. Ninian who set up a priory in Whithorn, Dumfries and Galloway in the 4th Century AD. Many examples of Celtic art have been unearthed at the dig there.
