This kit comprises 24x10g Miniballs in different colours and the paper-copy pattern for the cowl. Needles are not included.
This cowl features 15 different Celtic-inspired motifs. It is worked in the round on a 3.25mm 40cm circular (or DPNs/Magic Loop) and the ends are either grafted or seamed when it is the desired length. Required skills are: working in the round and stranded colourwork.
The cowl is largely based on the 2021 advent kit and features many of the same motifs. The sample is knit in 15 different colours of Miniballs - a kit is available for this - but it can be worked in any 4ply yarn of contrasting colours. It is particularly striking worked in just two colours. This kit contains additional colours as well as the 15 stated in the pattern. You can repeat any or all of the motifs as many times as desired using the suggested combinations or your own.
The cowl fits as a snug, single-loop when each motif is worked once as per pattern but in this kit there is sufficient yarn to make it long enough to fit twice around the neck.
It is named after St. Ninian who set up a priory in Whithorn, Dumfries and Galloway in the 4th Century AD. Many examples of Celtic art have been unearthed at the dig there.
